"How I Built It" Series

Throughout the year Colleen DeBaise will be moderating a series of panels featuring entrepreneurs who have made it big and can share their secrets of success. The Wall Street Journal "How I Built It" series for business owners, based on the popular column edited by Colleen DeBaise, will take place in cities across the country:

San Diego (3/31), Boston (4/14), Washington (5/23), Austin (6/9), Chicago (9/15).

Colleen DeBaise

Colleen DeBaise is special projects director at Entrepreneur. Prior to that, she was an editor at The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek and SmartMoney.

She has reported on a variety of issues facing small business owners, including cash-flow management, health care and retirement planning, and the challenge of work/life balance. She has been interviewed on television and radio, including MSNBC, Fox Business News, CNBC, CBS and NPR.

Before covering small business, Colleen spent many years writing about white-collar crime as lead court reporter for Dow Jones Newswires. In 2005, she was the winner of the Newswomen's Club of New York's Front Page award for specialized writing. She has a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in English from St. Lawrence University.
