Colleen DeBaise is a business journalist and author.

imgresShe is currently a contributing editor at Inc. and podcast host at The Story Exchange, a media nonprofit devoted to women business owners. Her “Women in Tech” podcast was named a 2016 finalist for a Gerald Loeb award for distinguished business reporting.

Colleen spent the bulk of her career covering entrepreneurship, primarily as the small business editor of The Wall Street Journal, and later as a contributor to The New York Times. Her book, The Wall Street Journal Complete Small Business Guidebook, is available here.

An entrepreneur herself, she is the founder of the Hampton Bee, an online publication covering the business community of Long Island’s East End.

In addition to those roles, Colleen has also served as an editor at Entrepreneur, BusinessWeek and SmartMoney. She has been a contributor to a variety of publications, including Huffington Post and The East Hampton Star’s East magazine

She has been interviewed as a small business expert on television and radio, including MSNBC, Fox Business News, CNBC, CBS and NPR.

Before covering small business, Colleen spent many years writing about white-collar crime as lead court reporter for Dow Jones Newswires. She also wrote a personal finance column. In 2005, she was the winner of the Newswomen’s Club of New York’s Front Page award for specialized writing.

debaise HIBI 3Colleen has a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.,  and a bachelor’s degree in English from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.

A Syracuse native, she lives in East Hampton with her husband, architect Frank Guittard, and identical twin daughters. When not writing about small business, she blogs about her adventures making curry at CrackingCurry.com.
